Built From the Field, For the Field
We’ve been there and we’ll be there for you.
At EMPEQ™, we didn’t discover this problem in a lab—we lived it on rooftops, in boiler rooms, and across hundreds of job sites. Making field analysis of equipment and parts faster and more accurate isn’t just our mission—it’s personal.
Before founding EMPEQ, Herb Dwyer and Derek LaClair spent years auditing energy systems and building models for over $250 million in commercial efficiency projects. Herb would often be sweating under the sun, squinting at a 23-character serial number, scribbling notes on a legal pad. Meanwhile, Derek would be deep in an energy model, trying to decode Herb’s handwriting just to get the SEER rating of an AC unit.
Photos were on Herb’s phone. Specs were in Derek’s spreadsheet. Site notes? Scattered across paper. That disjointed process led to four separate trips to the same building—all just to gather the data they missed or got wrong the first time. That was the breaking point. If a better solution didn’t exist, they’d build one.
They teamed up with Ed Wilson, P.E., former manager of Cornell’s microgrid, and brought in James Crouch, a world-class CTO whose career spans over 200 software applications—including one he introduced on stage with Steve Jobs at the original Apple App Store launch.
Together, this team built Fast Site Survey™, the tool they wished they’d had:
No more duplicating work back at the office.
No more scattered data across five platforms.
No more costly inefficiencies.
Fast Site Survey replaces manual headaches with smart automation and intuitive AI, designed specifically for engineers, auditors, and analysts in the field. Because we know this job isn’t always glamorous—but it’s absolutely essential.
We built EMPEQ for professionals like us—and we believe you'll love using it as much as we loved building it.
